Delights of God
Jesus says, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3).
Our purpose in life is to know our Creator and to be in a close, personal relationship with Him. That is the entire purpose of Christians reading the bible, praying, fellowship and good deeds. All these things are a means to knowing God.
“He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things have been created through Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1:15-16).
When Moses asked God to see His glory, God proclaimed His name to Moses which is the description of God’s character.
“Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives wickedness, rebellion and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” (Exodus 34:6-7).
Throughout the Old Testament, this description of God is repeated and affirmed in the Psalms and Prophets to acknowledge who God is and His character (Nehemiah 9:17, Psalm 86:15, Psalm 103:8, Psalm 145:8, Joel 2:13, Jonah 4:2, Nahum 1:3).
The example of Israel’s continual disobedience shows that they lost sight of their personal relationship with God because they forgot their purpose in being the people of God - which was to know Him, and not just perform religious rituals.
God continually called Israel back to a close, personal relationship with Himself through the Prophets, and in the same way, God calls people back to Himself today through Jesus.
“Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving-kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.”
(Jeremiah 9:23-26).
“At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.
All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
(Matthew 11:25-30).
Jesus calls people to know Him personally as their God and Savior, and all who have accepted Jesus and placed their trust in Him, are called to come to Him daily and find grace to know Him, because this is the purpose we have been created for.

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12).
